Do you stand out from the crowd? Are you aware of the checklist before, during and after the event?
Attending job fair is the easiest way to sell your resume unlike applying via online job portals. You have to be prepared and put your best foot forward for this much-awaited event. This is not a social gathering wherein you have to pass your resume then get freebies after the fair. It is like marketing yourself to several employers that you meet at every booth.
A winning attitude is needed that includes preparation, research and confidence to make you noticeable among with other thousands of jobseekers. Here are the top five tips to become a successful jobseekers:
Do your Assignment. Research all companies who will be participating the fair and make a target list to which industry you belong so you can start searching their company profile, and familiarizing yourself with their products / services and the nature of their businesses. You have to prioritize top ten employers that you are interested in. Practice a mock interview, which is an effective tool to overcome difficulties during interview.
Prepare your Resume. This is your ultimate bullet. If you are targeting two different positions, you must ready yourself two different versions of your comprehensive resume. Simplify your resume with 2-3pages maximum. Employers will not read a 10-page resume, though you had a lot of experiences. Include only job experiences that have very significance to the job position you are applying for.
Make an Impression. During the fair, build your confidence. Remember to treat the event as if you would be having an interview. Aggressive and assertiveness are the best techniques to make a lasting impression with the employers. Dress professionally according to the character that you like to portray in order to gain an eye with recruiters. Make an eye to eye contact and introduce yourself by offering a firm handshake. Wear your best smile.
Showcase your talent. Prioritize the top ten employers that you are interested in, and then approach the least companies in the list. Prepare a 20-30 second brief introduction of yourself. Establish good rapport with each recruiter and ask relevant questions that will broaden your understanding of the organization. This will give you an idea to which group best fits for you. Build a positive energy and answer all questions indicating the knowledge you learn about the company through your research. Respond to each question clearly and briefly.
Build your network. Don’t ever forget to collect business cards. Be friendly and make connection to people, not only employers but also jobseekers. Take advantage to chat with them because you might learn something that is essential for your job hunting.. The more information you gather, the better.

Stand out during these trying times
Increase your chances of getting a job amidst the economic turmoil
More and more people are finding themselves jobless since the advent of the global economic crisis. Here in Singapore alone, there are more than 11,000 cases of retrenchment in 2008. This current situation makes the competition in the employment market tougher than ever before. So how does one stand out among the thousands of jobseekers on the lookout for employment?
Here are some tips that can help you stand out from the crowd and increase your chances of landing a job in the current economic state:
Stay positive and focused. Don’t let the crisis break your spirit. In times like this, only those who remain positive and make every minute count survive. You need to plan, act on it and grab the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.
Upgrade your skills. Improve yourself by elevating your skills and expertise. Employers prefer people who can offer more talent and skills in the organisation and show continuous interest in learning new things. Enrol yourself in workshops and self-development programs. It may not even cost you too much as the government offers some of these programs as well. Visit www.wda.gov.sg and learn more about the Skills Programme for Upgrading and Resilience (SPUR).
Market yourself. Advertising yourself opens doors for more employment opportunities. Come up with a list of your strengths & skills. Revise your resumes and customise cover letters for the position you’re vying for. Make sure that your resume is impressive, because it’s your key to getting an interview with your potential employer. If you think you need to, consult with a professional resume writer, or just search for the resume template for your desired field/position and tailor it for your own use.
Practice for interviews. Be prepared for every interview so that you impress the interviewer with your confidence and communication skills. Since most interviewers ask the same questions, make a list of these common questions beforehand. Then, ask someone reliable to help you practice and get their sound advice on how you can improve your answers. It would also help if you research about the company you’re going to, so that you can customise your answers with reference to their values and business focus.
Be proactive. At times like this, you need to be more active, resourceful and productive. It’s not enough to just send out a handful of applications via snail mail. Send out as much as you can to get the results you want. Aside from checking the newspapers and agency listings, learn how to send out applications via email, which can help you send out more applications with just simple clicks at the comforts of your home. Check out websites that allow users to search for jobs, and get relevant job alerts, such as Jobs Global, which offers new innovations when it comes to online job hunting services.
To stand out in the job market, you need more than luck and a great resume. Always keep your eyes peeled for the latest in recruitment to be in the know of the hottest opportunities up for grabs in your industry.

Get what you want. Answer the survey!
I've been trying to look for a feature that would allow me to post a poll here, but blogger just hasn't been cooperative. So, I'm leading you to our other blog where you can answer this survey.
It will only take you a minute (even less). Just click on an item. We'd like to know how we can make Jobs Global Centre a better site for all its users.
Thanks!
