The BIG Idea

The first time I heard about the big idea was the day I first came for an interview with the director. He's so excited about the project, he tells everyone he meets about it. Even an applicant like me. He knew me for about 2 minutes and BAM!!! "Here's what I intend to do..." he said. "I want to change the world."

Of course I was taken aback. I mean, ok, this guy wants to change the world. Right. As if not everyone wants to do that. Normally, when you hear someone say something like this, you just walk away. But it was an interview, so I couldn't just do that, can I? So I stayed and listened.

After awhile I got it.

The big idea. We're changing the system of recruitment and employment with a portal that's one of a kind. The first and only pro-employment job search site that goes beyond boundaries. The job search site that lets both employers and jobseekers go global. YES— Global.

Instead of clustering job post and jobseeker databases to one country, region, or continent, we put it all in one humongous database. This allows employers to search potential candidates from around the world and not just their country. On the other hand, jobseekers too would have access to job postings not just from their country, but globally. So what happens when one launches a portal like this? Globalisation of Human Assets.

By globalising human assets, employers would no longer suffer the dilemma of looking for a specific talent in their locality. For example, you're an F&B Manager, and your hotel is based in China. The hotel owner wants to set up a French cafe and he wants an all French staff. You need a French baker, baristas, waiters, etc. to complete the French feel of your hotel's cafe. So how do you go about searching for these French staff in China?

Since you really can't just place job ads in foreign countries, you have to contact agents, immigration offices, etc. Before you even place an ad and fly to the location to screen applicants, you've already gone through so much trouble, and in the end you may not get the people you are looking for. This is just one of the issues our portal wants to address. With a job search site that goes global, employers can search for potential candidates wherever in the world they need to search for their potential candidates. They are not limited to looking for jobseeker profiles in just one country, region or continent. With this site, they can reach anyone, anywhere in the world.

Of course, the same goes for jobseekers. Since they can search for jobs both in their countries and around the world, they open doors to more opportunities for them. They can make more applications, with millions of job postings from around the world. You no longer need to open various accounts in different job search sites online just to see and apply for job posts in other countries. Plus you take away the risk of spending thousands since you don't even have to actually go abroad just to search for jobs overseas. You can make your applications online to any country you want to live and work in. You increase your chance of grabbing the perfect opportunity in your home country and anywhere in the world with the least risk involved.

And to make the entire recruitment process more efficient and cost-effective for both parties, we're also integrating hi-tech broadband applications that will enable employers and jobseekers to do online conferences and interviews. You can seal your international deal right at the comforts of your own home.

That's it! The big idea is bringing the world to your fingertips. It's giving people, like you and me, access to greater opportunities by opening doors to worldwide recruitment, global appointment, and borderless employment. Crazy, right? Yes, but think again, because most revolutionary concepts really start out as crazy ideas. That's why I'm still here.

If you think this is neat? Wait 'til I get to the details.

The start of something...

BIG!

About a month ago, I joined an organisation which specialises in strategic staffing solutions. The company was established 4 years ago, and they’ve been focusing on bringing foreign workers from Myanmar, Bangladesh, Manila and the PRC here in Singapore. The team has over 20 years of solid background in recruitment, especially in the F&B industry.

When I joined them, I became part of the business's expansion project (quite different since everyone else is cost-cutting nowadays, eh?), and this expansion project is really different as well as it presents the world a whole new concept of recruitment and job hunting.

We're still working on some finishing touches on the site, but soon we’ll be introducing you to a system that will make you go, “whoa!” and realise why you haven’t gotten the results you want with the “traditional” employment system.

I’ll be writing more about this revolutionary idea here, so come back anytime. I'll update as much as I can.
